Here's a calm answer. AI tools are good at the paperwork of delivery: minutes, status summaries, first-draft plans, risk lists. They are not good at the parts that made you useful — getting a sponsor to commit, telling a client "no" without losing them, noticing that a vendor's "on track" means "not started".
Something else is true too. Many companies have bought AI tools and are now running pilots with no one to manage them properly. Our route research found that the scarce skill there isn't building — it's scoping, governing and shipping. That's delivery work.
This page covers project managers, scrum masters, PMO analysts and delivery managers in IT services. The routes are the same; your starting point is slightly different.
Status Report Diet
Paste the section headings of your old weekly status report — RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) status, milestones, risks, decisions needed, budget, team updates. The tool labels each one AI can draft this, AI can draft, you must check, or only you can do this. Most reports shrink to a few "only you" lines: the decisions, the escalations, the judgement calls. Those lines are what your next role is built on. Illustrative; no data leaves your browser.
Shrink the status report
Delivery work: before and after
| Before | After |
|---|---|
| Manage a 40-person offshore team | Manage a pilot with 4 builders and an AI vendor |
| Status reports written by hand on Friday | AI drafts the report; you write the three lines that matter |
| Scope = features | Scope = use cases + evaluation criteria + data access |
| Risk log: resourcing, dependencies | Risk log adds: data privacy, model errors, user trust |
| Change request = new feature | Change request = new prompt, model or data source |
| Sign-off on UAT | Sign-off on eval results and a go/no-go stage gate |
| Scrum ceremonies for one product | Cadence across several pilots and teams |
How many hours went to paperwork?
Jot down what a typical week looked like:
- Hours writing status reports and minutes
- Hours in status meetings
- Hours updating trackers (Jira, Excel, MPP)
- Hours on decisions, escalations and client conversations
Add the first three: that's paperwork. The last one is judgement. If judgement hours were small, that's useful to know: your next role should grow them.
Four routes for delivery people
- AI implementation consultant — help mid-sized companies go from "we should use AI" to a shipped pilot. Readiness assessment, use-case prioritisation, governance.
- Fractional delivery lead — run scoping, SOWs and cadence part-time for small AI or automation agencies that can build but struggle to deliver predictably.
- AI program manager — run several GenAI pilots inside an enterprise or services firm: stage gates, approvals, value tracking.
- Presales or bid manager — shape deals and write proposals, with AI drafting and you supplying judgement and estimates.
Scrum masters: routes 2 and 3 fit most naturally. PMO analysts: route 3, starting from governance and reporting. Delivery managers in services: any of the four; route 1 if you liked client work most.
Tools and certificates (checked 24 Oct 2026)
- Jira has a Free plan tier (Atlassian pricing); we didn't confirm the user limit.
- Copilot Studio — Microsoft's low-code studio for building AI agents and workflows; useful for quick pilot demos (Microsoft Learn).
- NIST AI Risk Management Framework — voluntary, released January 2023, with a generative-AI profile added in July 2024 (NIST).
- PMI CAPM — entry-level; no experience required, 23 hours of project management education, 150 questions in 180 minutes (PMI). If you already hold PMP, keep it current; we couldn't load PMI's PMP page to re-check its details.
- Scrum certifications — Scrum.org and Scrum Alliance both offer them; we couldn't load Scrum.org's page on 24 Oct 2026, so check requirements and fees directly.
Project and delivery manager pay
We haven't verified pay data for project, delivery or AI program manager roles. Compare live listings for your city and experience level rather than trusting any figure quoted in a course ad.
Fake "PMP in 7 days" and visa-sponsored PM offers
Watch for exam "guaranteed pass" packages, leaked-question sellers and overseas PM jobs that need a processing fee. PMI exams are booked through pmi.org. Never share OTPs or UPI PINs with anyone. Use official domains only. Report in India at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930; in the US at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Will AI replace project managers?
It will replace a lot of project administration. People who mainly forwarded updates will feel it. People who made decisions happen are needed on AI projects, which fail for delivery reasons as often as technical ones (our observation; not a measured statistic).
Is scrum master still a safe title?
No title is safe or unsafe on its own. Scrum masters who can run cadence across teams and explain AI-specific risks to a sponsor are in a stronger spot than those who only facilitate ceremonies.

Your realistic 90 days
You ran sprints, RAID logs, status reports and escalations, and kept clients calm when dates slipped. AI projects carry the same delivery risks, plus new ones around data, accuracy and adoption. This plan tests five routes using a status report and RAID log you've already maintained.
Assumes 2–3 hours a day alongside job applications, a laptop and a phone, and free plans only. Every step has a smaller version and a way to pause. Use them. It runs in three blocks of 30 days, each ending with a signal that you're on track. A signal is not a promise of a job or income.
What AI changed in your old tasks
| You used to… | Now you… |
|---|---|
| Weekly RAG status reports | AI programme status with quality and adoption measures |
| RAID log for a software release | RAID log including model, data and compliance risks |
| Managed one client's delivery | Offer fractional delivery to several small teams |
Your first 7 days
| Day | Task | Done when |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rebuild a status report template and RAID log from memory (no client names) | Both files |
| 2 | Add 5 AI-specific risks to the RAID log (data privacy, accuracy, vendor change) | 5 rows |
| 3 | Program manager / adoption try-out: write a 1-page AI rollout plan | Plan |
| 4 | Presales try-out: write a 2-page proposal for an AI chatbot for a mid-size company | Proposal |
| 5 | Fractional try-out: draft a 'delivery health check' offer | Offer |
| 6 | Pick one route | Choice |
| 7 | Save 10 postings | 10 links |
Days 1–30: Your delivery artefacts, AI-ready
| Step | Time | Done when | Smaller version | If you need to pause |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Publish the chosen route's pack (plan, RAID, proposal or health check) | about 10 hours over 3 weeks | PDF + 2-minute Loom | One document. | Save or commit what works now and stop adding. A finished small version beats an unfinished big one. |
| Send to 5 ex-clients or delivery heads | about 2 hours | 5 messages | Send to 2 ex-clients or delivery heads. | Optional. If reaching out feels like too much this week, skip it and put the time into your proof. |
Signal by day 30: An ex-client or ex-manager comments positively.
Days 31–60: Second artefact
| Step | Time | Done when | Smaller version | If you need to pause |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Draft an AI pilot RAID log and stage-gate plan for a GCC-style client | about 8 hours | plan and RAID log on one shared page | The RAID log alone. | Stop at the end of the step you're on and write two lines about where you stopped. Pick it up from those notes later. |
| Apply to 10 roles where your project delivery manager years count | about 5 hours | 10 logged | Apply to 5 roles. | Stop sending for now. Keep a list of who you've contacted so you can follow up later without doubling up. |
Signal by day 60: A screening call.
Days 61–90: Interviews
| Step | Time | Done when | Smaller version | If you need to pause |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prepare 3 STAR stories: a recovered project, a hard client, a scope change | about 2 hours | 3 stories | Just one instead of 3. | Optional. Skip it if the week is full; nothing later depends on it. |
| Ask 3 former project delivery manager colleagues for referrals | about 1 hour | 3 asks | Just one instead of 3. | Optional. If reaching out feels like too much this week, skip it and put the time into your proof. |
Signal by day 90: A panel round or a fractional enquiry.
