In the middle, you add custom error handling and policies. At the code-heavy end, you build custom Java components and connectors. One use case, three layers, tests and a README with a diagram. Add one deliberate failure (a slow downstream system) and show how your flow handles it. Reviewers look for error handling first. Keep the README short: the problem, the three layers, how failures are handled, and what you would add next with more time.

Java developers move most directly. Backend developers with integration work and integration support engineers do well too.

A typical partner project: a retailer wants its online store, warehouse system and CRM to agree on stock and customer data. The team designs system APIs for each, a process API for "order fulfilment", and an experience API for the mobile app. Most effort goes into data mapping, error handling and testing with realistic volumes.
