- Have you estimated effort for a project someone else would sell? Yes / No
- Have you sat in a client meeting and fixed an over-promise on the spot? Yes / No
- Have you rewritten a proposal section because "this isn't how we'd actually deliver it"? Yes / No
Field note: AI now drafts a lot of proposal text. Our route research points out the value moves to judgement, estimates and win themes. A drafted section that promises the wrong thing still loses the deal — or worse, wins it.
Search interest: "presales jobs" about 480 a month in India and 90 in the US; "presales consultant" 390 and 90; "bid manager" 260 and 210 (OpenSEO, 24 Oct 2026). Interest is higher in India than the US for presales terms.
Win-Theme Highlighter
A made-up AI-drafted executive summary appears — fluent, confident and interchangeable. Highlight every sentence that could apply to any vendor ("we are committed to excellence"). The highlighter turns them grey. What's left is usually a sentence or two that's specific to this client. Then the page shows how to rewrite one grey sentence into a win theme: client need → your approach → evidence. Illustrative text only.
Grey out the boilerplate
The proposal process: before and after AI drafting
| Before | After |
|---|---|
| Weeks copying old proposals | AI drafts from a content library in hours |
| Senior people write boilerplate | Senior people write win themes and check claims |
| Estimates buried in spreadsheets | Estimates explained with clear assumptions |
| One-size-fits-all case studies | Evidence matched to the client's exact problem |
| Risk section as an afterthought | AI-specific risks (data, errors, governance) written up front |
| One reviewer at the end | Review gates: solution, commercial, legal, delivery |
Sort the proposal sections
You will probably put estimates, win themes and commercials in the last column. That's where to focus your learning.
Titles and what they mean
- Presales consultant / solution consultant: shapes the solution with the client before signing.
- Presales solution architect: more technical; designs and diagrams the solution.
- Bid manager: runs the response process, deadlines and reviews.
- Proposal manager: owns writing quality and the content library.
Tools (checked 24 Oct 2026)
- draw.io for architecture diagrams — free, Apache-2.0 source (drawio.com).
- A spreadsheet estimation model with explicit assumptions.
- Any AI assistant for first drafts — with client documents kept out unless your employer has approved the tool.
- RFP (request for proposal) software such as Loopio or Responsive exists in larger teams; we haven't checked them, so learn whichever an employer uses.
- For AI-solution risk sections, NIST's voluntary AI RMF is a useful reference (NIST).
A presales proof project
A full sample response to a public or mock RFP for an AI automation project: requirements understanding, solution overview, architecture diagram, estimate with assumptions, risks (including AI-specific ones), three win themes and a one-page executive summary. Don't copy a real client's confidential RFP.
Add a five-minute recorded walkthrough of the response, the way you'd present it in orals. Interviewers at Indian IT services firms and GCC presales teams often ask candidates to walk through a past bid, and a recording lets them see that before the first call.
Presales and bid role pay
We haven't verified pay data for presales, bid or proposal roles. Compare live listings for your city and experience level rather than trusting any figure quoted in a course ad.
Your realistic 90 days
Solution architects, senior developers, BAs and consultants in IT services come here. Presales architects shape proposals, estimates and demos for deals. Your starting artefact is a technical estimate or architecture you wrote for a project.
Assumes 2–3 hours a day alongside job applications, a laptop and a phone, and free plans only. Every step has a smaller version and a way to pause. Use them. It runs in three blocks of 30 days, each ending with a signal that you're on track. A signal is not a promise of a job or income.

Job-hunt moves that matter for this route
- Search 'presales', 'pre-sales solution architect' on Naukri.
- Services firms and SaaS companies hire presales.
- Honest assumptions in estimates read as seniority.
Where the openings are, and what to type
Also worth a weekly look: Instahyre, Cutshort, Wellfound, and iimjobs or hirist for senior roles. Upwork and Contra if you want freelance work.
IT services firms, SaaS vendors and system integrators answering RFPs. LinkedIn and iimjobs carry 'presales consultant', 'solution architect – presales' and 'bid manager' posts. In India, most presales seats sit in Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad and Noida with IT services companies (TCS, Infosys, Wipro and mid-size firms) and SaaS vendors; freshers are rarely hired, so your delivery years are the asset.
- LinkedIn search string:
(presales OR "pre-sales" OR "solution architect" OR "bid manager") AND (AI OR cloud OR RFP) - Naukri / foundit keywords: presales solution architect, presales consultant, RFP response, bid manager
Worries people bring to this route
- Too old at 40+ to be hired? Presales prefers seniority: buyers want someone who has delivered before.
- A career gap since my last role. A dated sample RFP response for a made-up client shows current thinking.
- Degree. Delivery history matters more than degree here.
- English in proposals. Proposals reuse structured sections; clarity beats flourish.
- Family. It's a senior seat beside sales leadership, easy to explain.
- Long hiring cycles. Keep delivery and programme roles in play while you wait.

Fake tender and "bid consultant" scams
Watch for fake government tender portals asking for an "EMD" deposit via personal accounts, and "bid consultant" offers that charge you to join. Check tenders only on official government domains. Never share OTPs or UPI PINs with anyone. Use official domains only. Report in India at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930; in the US at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
