Try it: Category and e-commerce brand manager check
Three quick calls from this job. Pick the better answer on each card; the back says why.
Category and e-commerce brand manager check
What the work looks like, week to week
- Own listings for a brand on Amazon and other marketplaces and one or two quick-commerce apps: titles, images, A+ content, search terms.
- Plan search and display ad spend with the platform account team and an agency.
- Track sell-through, stock-outs, ratings and share of search every week.
- Agree price, pack and promotion calendars with sales and finance.
- Read reviews (AI summaries help) and feed fixes back to product and packaging.
- Report a weekly scorecard: sales, ad spend as a share of sales, rank on top searches, out-of-stock days.
Who this suits
Brand managers and ABMs who like numbers as much as creative, and who are comfortable working with sales, supply and platform teams every week.
Probably not for you if you only want to work on campaigns and brand films.
Free tools and sources to start with (checked 29 Oct 2026)
- Amazon seller site. How selling, listings and ads work on Amazon; use the seller site for your country, for example sell.amazon.com or sell.amazon.in.
- Flipkart Seller Hub. Flipkart's official seller guides, one example; use your country's marketplace seller help (seller.flipkart.com).
- Data Studio. Free dashboards for a weekly scorecard (cloud.google.com).
Your first proof
Pick one brand you know well that sells on Amazon and other marketplaces. Audit its top 3 listings against the top 3 competitors for one search term: title, images, price per unit, ratings, delivery promise and whether it shows up as a sponsored result. Write a one-page fix list in priority order and a simple weekly scorecard you would track. Mark clearly that it is an outside-in audit of public pages.
Your realistic 90 days
You will be ready to interview for category, marketplace and e-commerce brand roles with a listing audit and a scorecard that show how you think.
Assumes 2 to 3 hours a day alongside job applications, a laptop and a phone, and free plans only. Every step has a smaller version and a way to pause. A signal is not a promise of a job.
Worries people bring to this route
- I only did offline brand work. Your shopper and pack judgement carries; the listing audit shows you can learn the platform side.
- No marketplace tools experience. Seller guides are public; say what you learned and from where.
- Is it a step down? Many brands treat e-commerce as a core channel; check the title, team size and reporting line in each post.

Where the openings are, and what to type
Start with LinkedIn, local job boards and company career pages; senior roles are often filled by referral, so ask early.
- LinkedIn search string:
("ecommerce brand manager" OR "category manager" OR "marketplace manager" OR "quick commerce" OR "key account manager ecommerce") - Local job board keywords: ecommerce brand manager, category manager, marketplace manager, Amazon brand manager, quick commerce
Job-hunt moves that matter for this route
- Search titles brands post: e-commerce brand manager, category manager, marketplace manager.
- Lead with one launch or pack decision you owned and the numbers behind it.
- Name the platforms you know (Amazon and other marketplaces, Instacart and other quick-commerce apps) and say honestly which you have used.

Fake-job traps
Watch for 'brand manager' offers that skip interviews, ask for a laptop or training deposit, or come from personal email addresses. Real employers never charge you to hire you. Use official domains only. Report it to your national cybercrime or consumer fraud agency and to the job site where you saw the ad.
Common questions
Do I need to have run a seller account? No. An outside-in audit of public pages is honest proof; say clearly that it is.
Is quick commerce a separate job? Some large brands hire for it separately; smaller ones fold it into the e-commerce role. Read each post.
