Ad platforms now automate much of what you used to do by hand: bidding, targeting, even placements. The work that stays human is deciding what to say, fixing what happens after the click, and explaining the numbers honestly to people who decide budgets (observation).
The World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025 says slower economic growth is "among the top contributors to job decline in ... Sales and Marketing Professionals" (WEF, Jan 2025). The ILO's 2025 update adds that "transformation of jobs is the most likely impact of GenAI" (ILO, May 2025). Both describe whole categories, not your city or your skills. The rest of this page is our reading of the work itself (observation).
Try it: Lever Left to Pull
Four campaign problems. For each, pick whether the fix is a setting the platform now automates or a lever that still needs you.
Lever Left to Pull
Three routes that reuse what you did
Did you love finding the ad that won? AI ad-creative strategy plans angles and variants, then reads the results. Route: AI Ad-Creative Strategist.
Did you keep blaming the landing page? CRO specialists fix pages, forms and checkout steps with careful tests. Route: CRO Specialist.
Were you the one who built the reports? An AI-assisted BI analyst builds dashboards and uses AI to answer questions faster, with checks. Route: AI-Assisted BI Analyst.

Your realistic 90 days
You planned and optimised paid campaigns against targets. Platforms now automate many settings, so your value moves to message, conversion and honest measurement.
Assumes 2–3 hours a day alongside job applications, a laptop and a phone, and free plans only. Every step has a smaller version and a way to pause. Use them. It runs in three blocks of 30 days, each ending with a signal that you're on track. A signal is not a promise of a job or income.

| Step | Time | Done when | Smaller version | If you need to pause |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Write a clean log of 5 past tests with what you'd change | about 6 hours over 3 weeks | log | 3 tests. | Stop at the end of the step you're on and write two lines about where you stopped. Pick it up from those notes later. |

Days 31–60: Your chosen route
| Step | Time | Done when | Smaller version | If you need to pause |

Signal by day 90: A second round or a paid trial.
Worries people bring when leaving this job
- The algorithm does my job now. It does settings. Inputs and judgement are still yours (observation).
- I managed small budgets. Tests and learning matter more than budget size.
- No analytics degree. Show a dashboard you built.
- I was laid off. A test log shows you kept learning.
- I'm not a designer. Strategists brief designers; they don't need to design.
- I need work quickly. Freelance landing-page audits can start in week two.
Where the openings are, and what to type
Also worth a weekly look: Instahyre, Cutshort, Wellfound, and iimjobs or hirist for senior roles. Upwork and Contra if you want freelance work.
D2C brands, agencies, SaaS and fintech. LinkedIn carries most strategist and CRO roles; Naukri carries analyst and executive roles.
- LinkedIn search string:
("creative strategist" OR CRO OR "conversion rate" OR "marketing analyst" OR "growth analyst") - Naukri / foundit keywords: creative strategist, CRO specialist, marketing analyst, growth analyst
Job-hunt moves that matter for this route
- Search 'creative strategist', 'CRO specialist', 'growth analyst' and 'marketing analyst' on LinkedIn.
- Show tests and what you learned, not only spend managed.
- Agencies and D2C brands hire strategists; SaaS hires CRO and analysts.

Job scams aimed at marketers
Watch for 'marketing internships' that charge a registration or certificate fee, 'work from home' review or like-and-earn tasks, and anyone asking for an OTP, UPI PIN or a deposit before you start. Real employers never charge you to hire you. Use official domains only. Report in India at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930; in the US, ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
What people in this role ask
Is performance marketing dead? No. The manual part is shrinking; strategy, creative and measurement still need people (observation).
I only ran Meta ads. Creative strategy and CRO both value Meta experience; show your tests.
Do I need SQL for BI? It helps. You can start with spreadsheets and learn SQL basics in the first month.
