Myth 2: "You need an expensive certificate first." Two of the three big platforms have free editions you can practise on today, and the third has free hands-on training. Build first; certify if listings ask.
Myth 3: "AI will configure CRMs by itself." CRM vendors are adding AI features — lead scoring, email drafting, summaries. Someone still has to decide which fields matter, clean the data those features read, and check the output makes sense. That someone is often a consultant.
Pipeline Stage Sorter
Twelve cards from a messy real-world pipeline ("called once", "sent quote", "said maybe", "paid advance", "ghosted") land on screen. Drag them into five clean stages you name yourself. Then the sorter shows which cards didn't fit anywhere — those are the questions you'd ask the business owner in your first workshop. Nothing is saved.
Sort the messy pipeline
Your realistic 90 days
You gathered sales and support requirements and handed them to the CRM team. CRM consultants configure Zoho, HubSpot or Salesforce themselves, now with AI features. Small Indian businesses run on WhatsApp and Excel and often need a first CRM. You'll set up a CRM from a sales process you've documented.
Assumes 2–3 hours a day alongside job applications, a laptop and a phone, and free plans only. Every step has a smaller version and a way to pause. Use them. It runs in three blocks of 30 days, each ending with a signal that you're on track. A signal is not a promise of a job or income.
The two worries we hear most about this move
Do I need a Salesforce certification first? It helps on CVs, but it isn't the first step. Trailhead is free, so do the beginner trails and build one small CRM setup on a free developer account. Decide about certification exams once you're getting interviews. CRM work sounds like sales. Will I have to sell? No. You'll configure pipelines, clean data and translate how a sales team works into the system. You'll talk to salespeople a lot, but you won't carry their targets.
Other worries, such as age, a career gap, no degree, English, family pressure and savings, are covered on the route page and the role page.

| Step | Time | Done when | Smaller version | If you need to pause |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Publish the walkthrough and a setup checklist | about 10 hours over 3 weeks | Loom + PDF | No dashboard. | Save or commit what works now and stop adding. A finished small version beats an unfinished big one. |

Signal by day 30: A small business owner asks a question about it.
Days 31–60: Certifications
| Step | Time | Done when | Smaller version | If you need to pause |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free HubSpot Academy or Trailhead badges for admin basics | about 10 hours | badges earned | 3 modules. | Bookmark where you stopped. It will still be there next week. |

Signal by day 60: A screening call or a setup request.
Days 61–90: First setup
| Step | Time | Done when | Smaller version | If you need to pause |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Set up a CRM for one real business (free or paid) | about 10 hours | live for 2 weeks | Help a friend. | Stop at the end of the step you're on and write two lines about where you stopped. Pick it up from those notes later. |
| Ask for a referral | about 1 hour | ask sent | Aim for 1. | Optional. If reaching out feels like too much this week, skip it and put the time into your proof. |
Signal by day 90: A paid setup or second interview.

CRM consulting questions from BAs
Which platform should I learn?
Look at who hires near you. Zoho is common among Indian small and mid-sized businesses; HubSpot among marketing-led startups and agencies; Salesforce in larger companies and global teams. Search volumes give a hint: "salesforce administrator jobs" about 1,900 a month in India and 8,100 in the US; "zoho consultant" about 260 in each; "crm consultant" 210 and 480 (OpenSEO, 24 Oct 2026).
Can I really practise for free?
Yes, as of 24 Oct 2026:
- Zoho CRM has a free edition for up to 3 users (Zoho pricing).
- HubSpot offers a free CRM (HubSpot).
- Salesforce Trailhead is free hands-on training (Trailhead).
HubSpot Academy also offers courses; we couldn't confirm which certifications are free because the page loads by script, so check it yourself.
What's the difference between a CRM admin and a CRM consultant?
An admin looks after one company's CRM day to day. A consultant sets up or fixes CRMs for clients, usually across several businesses. Admin roles are a common first job; consulting is a common second step or freelance path.
Do I need to code?
Not to start. Pipelines, fields, layouts, workflow rules and reports are configured in the browser. Later, Salesforce developers write code, but that's a different route.
Where does AI come in?
You'll map which AI features help a given business (email drafts, call summaries, lead scoring) and, more importantly, whether the data is clean enough for them to work. A CRM full of duplicate leads gives bad AI suggestions.
What about data migration?
Every CRM project moves data from spreadsheets or an old system. Your BA skill of mapping fields — "old column → new field, with rules" — is exactly what's needed.

The proof project: a mock CRM for a made-up business
- Invent a business close to your domain — a coaching institute, a clinic, a B2B parts supplier.
- Map its sales process as-is, in five to seven stages.
- Configure the free CRM: pipeline stages, 8–10 custom fields, two automations (e.g. follow-up task after 3 days; alert when a deal moves to "won").
- Import 30 fake records from a spreadsheet you mapped yourself.
- Build one report — deals by stage, or lead source.
- Record a 5-minute walkthrough explaining why each choice fits the business.
Use made-up data only. Never import real customer phone numbers or emails into a practice account.
Five questions for your first client workshop
- Where do your leads come from today, and who writes them down?
- When do you call a lead "lost"?
- Who needs to see what — owner, sales staff, accounts?
- What report do you wish you had every Monday?
- What would make you stop using the CRM after a month?
The last one is the one most consultants forget to ask.
CRM consultant pay
We haven't verified pay data for CRM admin or consultant roles. Compare live listings for your city and experience level rather than trusting any figure quoted in a course ad.
Fake CRM partner and certification offers
Be careful with "official partner" agencies that ask trainees for a joining fee, and with emails offering cheap exam vouchers. Book certifications only on the vendor's own site (zoho.com, hubspot.com, salesforce.com). Never share OTPs or UPI PINs with anyone. Use official domains only. Report in India at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930; in the US at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Scam check before you apply anywhere
- Real job and gig platforms are free to join. Never pay a "joining" or "training" fee.
- Never share an OTP or UPI PIN — no genuine employer needs them.
- Use official domains only; type the address yourself.
- India: report at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.
- US: report at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
